Medical colleges are under the authority of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). These medical colleges are affiliated with a government university in the respective region.
How many Medical Colleges in Bangladesh?
In 1986, all the medical colleges were founded by the government of Bangladesh. After then, several private medical colleges have been established. There is a total of 90 acknowledged medical colleges in Bangladesh, 54 of which are private and 36 public. Besides these, there are 6 military medical colleges that are run by the Bangladesh Armed Forces and are under the Ministry of Defence.
Govt Medical college in Bangladesh
PG University Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) is the first and only medical university in Bangladesh. It provides just postgraduate degrees includes MD, MS, PhD, MPhil, MDS, Diploma and also FCPS Courses. From 2014, Chittagong Medical College (Govt. Colleges under Chittagong University) and Rajshahi Medical College (Govt. Colleges under Rajshahi University) are also introduced to be operated as Full-fledged Medical University.
Public Medical College in Bangladesh
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University also known as BSMMU is the first medical university in Bangladesh. It offers only postgraduate degrees (MD, MS, MDS, Ph.D., MPhil, Diploma and FCPS Courses).
